In addition to editing the American Horticultural Society's newsletter (now published as part of
The American Gardener), I also have been the editor of the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group's Newsletter.
As editor, from spring 1998 to fall 2006, I was responsible for producing the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group's
(HPS/MAG) bi-monthly newsletter. I collected and wrote news items from board members, kept track of the publications schedule,
wrote articles, and edited copy. I was also responsible for laying out the newsletter, selecting illustrations, managing proofreading
and production, handling classified ads, and also working with the board and members on upcoming issues.
HPS/MAG experimented with producing a annual magazine/journal during the time I worked for them, and
I helped develop the list of articles and contributors, created a design, selected illustrations, managed the advertisements,
and laid out the entire issue. Ultimately HPS/MAG decided to add a featurel well to the newsletter instead of producing an
annual journal. As the newsletter editor, I managed the feature well and was responsible for contracting for articles from
various freelancers, editing content, selecting illustrations, and laying out the feature well as part of producing the entire
newsletter.
